Football and film prove no match

Football and film prove no match

PARIS (AFP) - It would seem at first glance a match made in heaven. Ninety minutes of nail-biting drama, 22 hunky guys torn between joy and despair, and a little round ball. Perfect ingredients for a great movie.

But, apart from a few worthy and entertaining attempts, even the most die-hard football fans agree with cinema critics, that footie movies are definitely worth giving a miss.Collapse )

Equilibrium

Everybody loves a good dystopian, socially thought-provoking flick.

Well, at least, I do. Given today's global political climate, they seem to enjoy a more receptive audience. (I'm thinking of Good Night, And Good Luck, V for Vendetta, Syriana etc.)

I can't believe I'm about to give credit to cable/pay television, but without it, I most certainly would not have discovered the film of this discussion, Equilibrium. Not long after, I ordered it on DVD. Written and directed by Kurt Wimmer, the story centers around John Preston (played by Christian Bale), who is part of the Grammaton Order, in a future not too far removed from our own.Collapse )

Sharpe Cut

For my Sean Bean Forum I've made a collection of quotes from the book, written by Linda Blandford. The book is basically "The Making Off Sharpe's Challenge" but contains quite interesting Sean stuff. The writer starts off with almost disliking Sean, but gradually grows to a slightly different view.

I thought it might be interesting to share. Remember I've only used "bits and pieces" I thought interesting.

You'll find it here:
